Bio:

Matthew Bolton is associate professor of political science and Model UN advisor at Pace University in New York City. He has worked as an academic, aid worker and a freelance journalist in 16 countries and is author of Foreign Aid and Landmine Clearance (I.B. Tauris). He has a PhD in government from the London School of Economics, in which he researched the politics of foreign aid for demining in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Sudan and was designated one of the ‘Best Young Researchers’ in Europe by Atomium Culture.

Matthew’s research now draws on wide-ranging participant observation in a variety of disarmament campaigns and policy processes, including on military robotics, nuclear weapons and the arms trade. Bolton is ICRAC’s Membership Secretary and has represented it in meetings of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons. He was an advisor to Control Arms at the 2012 and 2013 Diplomatic Conferences negotiating the Arms Trade Treaty. He has served as an advisor to Article 36 in the UN General Assembly First Committee, and the 2015 NPT Review Conference. He is a researcher for the Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor and has worked on UNICEF, Counterpart International and Handicap International Belgium mine action programs. He serves as a representative of the International Peace Research Association to the UN in New York. Bolton has worked to place his students in a variety of volunteer and intern positions in disarmament organizations in New York City and offers an undergraduate class in the politics of disarmament.
